WMPSO was established late 2015 and registered in 2016. After completing his degree in Psychology, its Founder Paul Saing’eu increasingly became restless seeing a big gap in the area of mental health in Tanzania and became more passionate to the extent of creating a platform to create awareness in psychological wellbeing and intergration to ensure holistic growth of people. Paul sought support from his friends most of whom are well respected in their field of expertise and supported the establishment of WMPSO. In his team among others is a lawyer, social workers, peace and child expert, communication expert, management expert, financial expert and a clergy. This team agreed to offer their time and energies in the spirit of volunteerism to ensure that the infant organization attains its objectives which are:
1.To promote community health through provision of psychological and emotional support to people
- To advocate on issues concerning destitute children, depressed youth, men and women and enhance incorporation of their basic needs on national policies, legislation, budget and strategies.
3.To facilitate establishment of counseling and wellness centres for handling depressed people.
4.Promote children wellbeing through outreach programmes on issues concerning early childhood development, chidren rights, child protection and children in decision making.
5.To sensitize community on issues concerning environmental conservation practices and economic empowerment intervention through media, information hubs, regional and national exhibition
By the end of 2020, WMPSO had already reached to 3 regions of Tanzania mainland namely Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Manyara and touched at least the lives of 2000 people most of whom have accessed both one-on-one and group counseling through our tailor made outreach services.
What excites us most is the change in attitude that Tanzanian are adopting towards mental health and its participatory models that WMPSO uses. These approaches include coaching, mentorship, counseling, role play and use of expressive forms like drama and arts where individuals express their emotions to ventilate and gain more understanding of their wellbeing.Through WMPSO many school children in their respective schools have gained a much deeper level and sense of awareness, self worth and a positive attitude towards their studies and their fellow students.Positive parenting have made more parents achieve a desirable change in the lives of their children.Through collaboration with other likeminded stakeholders we seek to further influence policies, laws and other discourse that aims to help Tanzanian attain their full potentials and yet enjoy a well-balanced life through sustainable community development
